The Austrian governmental organization “Österreichische Bundesforste” recently published an emergency application for Android smartphones that was developed by Zühlke Engineering mostly under my responsibility. This application allows users to quickly dispatch an emergency call, while showing them their location, an offline saved map or custom map data to enable the caller to provide as much information as possible, which is a critical issue if working in a forest, where no street names are available and network coverage is holey.
The application is available for free in the Google Play Store and might also be useful for anyone while climbing in the alps, hiking off-road or simply strolling through the forest, in case an emergency happens and a precise location is required to guide the ambulance to the accident location.
Try it our yourself and let me know what you think!
